A. Song & Its Lyrics
1. Pengertian Song
Song is a composition of tone or voice in sequence, combination and temporal relation to produse a musical compositian that has unity and continuity. (Lagu adalah gubahan seni nada atau suara dalam suatu urutan, kombinasi, dan hubungan temporal (biasanya diiringi dengan alat musik) untuk menghasilkan gubahan musik yang mengandung kesatuan dan kesinambungan)
Lagu bersifat ekspresif karena beberapa di antaranya menyampaikan cinta dan emosi; menceritakan kisah yang berkesan dan mengharukan; mewujudkan impian dan cita-cita seseorang; dan mengenang masa lalu emas. Lagu memiliki banyak tema dan ekspresi dapat dinikmati oleh setiap masyarakat dengan berbagai latar belakang sosial, budaya, ekonomi, dan kondisi politik. Tidak jarang lagu menggambarkan situasi sosial yang sedang terjadi di lingkungan penulis lagu, seperti kejahatan sosial, diskriminasi, krisis lingkungan, dan lain-lain.
2. Fungsi Sosial Song
Song atau lagu memeiliki beberapa fungsi sosial atau social function di antaranya yaitu:
a. to express feeling and idea (mengungkapkan perasaan dan ide);
b. to criticise the social, environmental and political issues (mengkritik isu-isu sosial, lingkungan, dan politik);
c. to entertain or amuse the listeners (menghibur para pendengar);
d. To teach moral value through the lyrics of the songs (mengajarkan nilai moral melalui lirik lagu);
e. To provide a way of managing the realitionship between our public and private emotional life (menyediakan cara mengelola hubungan antara kehidupan emosional publik dan pribadi kita);
f. To express personal feeling and cultural values (mengekspresikan perasaan pribadi dan nilai-nilai budaya);
g. To give someone not only to share their emotions with others, but also to have an emotional connection that just can’t be experienced in any other way (Memberi seseorang untuk tidak hanya berbagi emosi dengan orang lain, tetapi juga memiliki hubungan emosional yang tidak dapat dialami dengan cara lain).
*Catatan:
Moral value atau nilai moral/ amanat umumnya tersirat dalam lirik yang dibuat penulis lagu.
3. Struktur Umum Song
Lagu memiliki beberapa struktur umum atau generic structure antara lain sebagai berikut:
a. Intro, merupakan bagian awal lagu, biasanya belum terdengar suara penyanyi (hanya instrumennya saja)
b. Verse, atau bait merupakan bagian pengantar ke chorus.
c. Chorus, merupakan bagian inti, biasanya yang paling mudah diingat.
d. Refrain, merupakan peralihan dari verse ke chorus.
e. Bridge, merupakan penghubung chorus ke chorus selanjutnya ataupun ke coda.
f. Coda, merupakan penutup lagu.
*Catatan:
Struktur tersebut bersifat fleksibel, jadi tidak semua lagu memiliki struktur yang tersusun seperti itu. Tapi setiap lagu secara umum pasti memiliki verse, chorus, dan bridge.
4. Ciri-Ciri Kebahasaan Song
Song atau lagu memiliki beberapa ciri kebahasaan atau language features, yaitu:
§ Imagery (Perumpamaan/Citra)
Imagery is language used by poets, novelists and other writers to create images in the mind of the reader. Imagery includes figurative and metaphorical language to improve the reader’s experience through their senses. (Citra adalah bahasa yang digunakan oleh penyair, novelis, dan penulis lain untuk membuat gambar di benak pembaca. Citra mencakup bahasa kiasan dan metaforis untuk meningkatkan pengalaman pembaca melalui indra mereka)
§ Rhythm (Ritme)
Rhythm is a strong, regular, repeated pattern of movement or sound (pola gerakan atau suara yang kuat, teratur, dan berulang). Ritme disini digunakan untuk menciptakan mood. Misalnya, apabila kita sedang bersedih dan mendengarkan lagu dengan ritme slow, maka kita akan terbawa suasana dengan lagu tersebut.
§ Figures of speech (Majas), seperti:
a. Metaphor, comparing two things that are not alike to suggest that they actually have something in common. Sekilas memang kedua hal yang dibandingkan tidak berkaitan, tetapi sebenarnya ada kesamaan antara dua hal tersebut.e.g. “Time is a thief” or “Her hair was silk”
b. Simile, compares two things using “like” or “as’’. Suatu hal digambarkan dengan hal yang mirip dengan menggunakan kata ‘like’ atau ‘as’ e.g. “My love is like a red rose”.
c. Hyperbole, a dramatic language. Big exaggeration, usually with humor. Suatu hal digambarkan secara berlebihan, terkadang menggelitik karena terlalu berlebihan. e.g. “That math homework took me 8 million years tofinish”.
d. Personification, an object appears like a person. Objek (bukan manusia) memiliki kemampuan seperti manusia.e.g. “The wind whisper” or “The snow flakes danced in the wind”.
e. Allititration, the repetition of the same beginning sound in a series of words. Perulangan bunyi suara yang terdapat di awal setiap kata. e.g. “Peter Parker pick a pack of pants punctually”
Selain itu, secara garis besar song atau lagu memeiliki ciri-ciri kebahasaan sebagai berikut yaitu:
Berikut ini adalah fitur bahasa dari lagu.
a. Lirik ditulis sebagai orang pertama, kedua, atau ketiga berdasarkan perspektif spesifik yang Anda pilih. Seringkali sudut pandang waktu berubah dalam lirik, tetapi hanya jika diperlukan;
b. Mereka menggunakan kata-kata yang berima (rhyme). Biasanya lagu menggunakan nada dan rima yang mudah diingat. Rima (Rhyme) adalah gaya linguistik, berdasarkan konsonansi atau bunyi serupa dari dua atau lebih suku kata atau seluruh kata di akhir satu baris; rima (rhyme) paling sering digunakan dalam puisi dan lagu;
c. Mereka menggunakan aliterasi, yaitu perangkat gaya di mana sejumlah kata, yang memiliki suara konkonan pertama yang sama muncul berdekatan dalam satu rangkaian, misalnya: A big bully beats a baby boy;
d. Beberapa lagu menggunakan perangkat puitis (poetic devices), seperti majas (figure of speech) dan perumpamaan (magery). Meskipun lagu dapat memberikan gambaran yang hidup karena merupakan medium yang lebih panjang, perumpamaan (imagery) juga dapat ditemukan dalam satu kalimat. Perumpamaan (imagery) adalah bahasa deskriptif yang hidup yang menarik bagi satu atau lebih indera (penglihatan, pendengaran, sentuhan, dan rasa) misalnya: Her blue eyes were asbright as the sun, blue asthe sky, but soft assilk (Mata birunya secerah matahari, biru seperti langit, tapi lembut seperti sutra). Sebuah majas (figure of speech) adalah sebuah kata atau frase yang memiliki arti yang berbeda dari arti literalnya (secara harfiah);
e. Beberapa lagu menggunakan permainan kata (word play) dan bahasa gaul (slang). Permainan kata adalah manipulasi bahasa (khususnya, bunyi, dan arti kata) dengan maksud untuk menghibur; kecerdasan verbal. Slangadalah jenis bahasa yang terdiri dari kata dan frasa yang sangat informal. Bahasa gaul (slang) lebih umum dalam ucapan daripada dalam tulisan, misalnya: gonna (akan), wanna (ingin), ain’t (tidak), etc.
